"Golden Holiday, Catch the Consumers"... Retail Industry Launches Super Discount Sales
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] The "Golden Holiday" begins on the 30th and lasts for six days. The retail industry is launching large-scale discount events to revive consumer sentiment, which has been dampened by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Lotte Mart is holding the "Children's Day Toy Festival" until May 5th in anticipation of Children's Day. This is the biggest toy event of the year, offering discounts of up to 70% on over 1,000 products. The event includes board games, tents, camping play toys, and other outdoor products that families can enjoy together, as well as discounted electronic games.
Emart is running a health food discount event. Until June 6th, Korean beef, eel, abalone, and other foods are being sold at discounts of up to 40%. In collaboration with the Korean Beef Fund Management Committee, a 30% discount is applied when paying with event cards. An additional 10% discount is available when paying with KB Kookmin Card. Homeplus offers up to 40% off all Nonghyup Safe Korean beef products and up to 30% off branded pork belly and neck meat.
Lotte Department Store is hosting a cosmetic fair featuring 40 cosmetic brands at all its stores. This is the largest promotion since its opening, aimed at stimulating post-COVID consumption. Especially as overseas travel remains difficult for a prolonged period, making it hard for consumers to purchase duty-free cosmetics, three promotions have been prepared to offer discounts comparable to duty-free prices.
Lotte Department Store offers a 10% discount (via department store app coupon download) and gift certificates worth 10% of the purchase amount (given according to purchase tiers). Cosmetic brands provide separate gift certificates of 5-10% and additional brand mileage points, effectively doubling the benefits consumers receive.
Shinsegae Department Store's cosmetic select shop Chicor will hold a "K-Beauty Fair" at all its stores from the 30th of this month to the 31st of next month, showcasing 100 domestic cosmetic brands. Chicor-exclusive brands such as Huxley, Farmy, Klairs, and Colette, as well as popular brands like Dear Dahlia, Lagom, Jung Saem Mool, and By Neff, are gathered in one place.
Chicor has prepared various customized sets for different customers, including Stila blushers perfect for Adult's Day gifts, Chicor body wash, lotion, and mask pack sets targeting Parents' Day, and Luxley oil essence sets.
Hyundai Department Store will hold the "Men's Bespoke Fair" from the 27th of this month to the 3rd of next month at the Topaz Hall on the 7th floor of the Mokdong branch. The event, themed around "bespoke," meaning custom-made orders, features British luxury bespoke suit brand Scabal, the famous Cheongdam-dong tailor shop Fortengarment, and Bannibespoke, among other domestic and international bespoke suit brands not usually found in department stores.
