[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] On May 1st, Labor Day, gatherings due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) will be small-scale and mainly conducted online.
On the 29th, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) will hold a workers' rally at Marronnier Park in Daehangno in the afternoon, followed by a march, and the 'Solidarity for the Elimination of Disability Discrimination Joint Struggle Group' will hold a rally near the Seoul Employment and Labor Office in Euljiro, followed by a march.
The KCTU plans to significantly reduce the scale of Labor Day-related events compared to previous years due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19 and will also broadcast related events online via YouTube.
The KCTU intends to hold small-scale gatherings while adhering to preventive guidelines such as wearing masks and maintaining distance. Joint actions by affiliated organizations and regional headquarters will be conducted simultaneously at major locations in Seoul. Solo protests, walking marches, bicycle marches, and vehicle marches are expected to continue.
A KCTU official explained, "Considering that social distancing is still in effect, large-scale gatherings will be avoided, and press conferences and publicity campaigns will be conducted mainly by union leaders and representatives."
