Drone Penetrates Daily Life... Demonstration of 'Logistics Delivery and Security Management' Underway
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The government will implement comprehensive support policies, including establishing legal grounds to enable drones to be utilized in various everyday fields.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 30th that the "Act on the Promotion and Foundation of Drone Utilization" (hereinafter referred to as the Drone Act), which contains comprehensive support measures for the domestic drone industry, will take effect from the 1st of next month.
The Drone Act includes support measures across the industry such as ▲ operation of special regulatory exemptions related to drones ▲ support for startups and research and development ▲ support for overseas expansion of drone companies ▲ training of drone specialists.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will designate and operate a drone regulatory special zone called the "Drone Special Free Zone" to promote drone utilization demonstrations in urban areas, which have faced difficulties due to various regulations.
The purpose is to practically utilize drones in various fields such as logistics delivery, public safety, environmental management, and transportation, and to consider development directions from an industrial perspective.
The Ministry plans to hold a public contest for the designation of the "Drone Special Free Zone" targeting mayors, county governors, and district heads from the 1st of next month to June 30th. The goal is to complete the designation within the year after screening.
Mayors, county governors, and district heads can apply for designation by submitting a plan for the establishment of the "Drone Special Free Zone" to the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport within the designated period.
Additionally, the Ministry plans to actively foster drone venture companies, which are the driving force of innovative growth, by supporting startup costs, equipment, and facilities related to drones.
Along with this, a dedicated educational institution will be operated to help domestic drone companies enter overseas markets such as Africa, the Middle East, and South America. Through this, specialists in various fields including research and development, manufacturing, and utilization will be trained.
Legal grounds will also be established for the construction and operation of the "Unmanned Traffic Management System (UTM)," which is essential for realizing drone delivery and drone taxis, considered the core of the future drone industry.
