Prosecution Seeks 3-Year Prison Sentence for Jo Yoon-sun in Retrial Over 'Whitelist Creation' Case
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The prosecution has requested a three-year prison sentence for former Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Cho Yoon-sun, who was indicted on charges of coercing support for conservative groups during the Park Geun-hye administration.
On the 29th, at the retrial held by the Criminal Division 6 of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judge Oh Seok-jun), the prosecution asked the court to sentence former Senior Secretary Cho to three years in prison.
The prosecution also requested three years in prison each for former administrative officer Heo Hyun-jun and former secretary Oh Do-seong, and two years in prison each for former Senior Secretary Park Jun-woo, former secretary Shin Dong-cheol, and former secretary Jeong Gwan-ju, who were indicted together.
Former Chief of Staff Kim Ki-chun and former Senior Secretary Hyun Ki-hwan requested an opportunity to present arguments for sentencing considerations, so the verdict was postponed to the next hearing.
They were indicted on charges of pressuring the Federation of Korean Industries from 2014 to 2016 to provide 6.9 billion won in support to pro-government conservative groups.
Former Senior Secretary Cho is also accused of receiving 45 million won in special activity funds from the National Intelligence Service.
In the first and second trials, former Chief of Staff Kim was sentenced to one year and six months in prison, and former Senior Secretary Cho was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year probation.
