89% of Gyeonggi Residents Say "COVID-19 Response Is Going Well"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] It has been revealed that 86% of Gyeonggi Province residents positively evaluate the payment of the 'Gyeonggi Province Disaster Basic Income.' Additionally, 89% of residents assessed that Gyeonggi Province is handling the COVID-19 situation well.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 29th that, according to a survey conducted on the 25th by the polling agency Case Stat Research Co., Ltd., through telephone interviews with 1,000 residents aged 18 and over, 98% of residents were aware that the application for the 'Disaster Basic Income' payment is currently underway, and 86% positively evaluated the payment as 'well done.'
The province has been accepting applications for the 'Gyeonggi Province Disaster Basic Income' online and offline since the 20th.
When asked where they would spend the Disaster Basic Income, residents responded that they would use it at ▲supermarkets (49%) ▲regular restaurants (40%) ▲traditional markets (35%) ▲hospitals, clinics, oriental medicine clinics, pharmacies, and postpartum care centers (16%) ▲convenience stores (15%), among others.
The survey results also confirmed that residents are well aware of how to use the Disaster Basic Income.
86% of residents knew that it cannot be used at department stores, large marts, entertainment and gambling establishments, and 85% answered that it must be used within three months from the approval date.
However, the majority of residents (80%) predicted that the national economy is in crisis due to COVID-19 and that the situation may prolong.
35% of residents responded that there is a household member experiencing difficulties in job seeking, including leave of absence or unemployment, due to COVID-19.
Residents also overwhelmingly supported the expansion of new public jobs (84%) and stabilization support for affected companies (90%).
Residents perceived the nationwide COVID-19 situation as being in the 'gradually calming stage' (58%) or 'almost stabilized stage' (35%).
Meanwhile, regarding Gyeonggi Province's response to COVID-19, 89% of residents evaluated it as 'doing well.' This figure is a 17 percentage point increase compared to the survey in February.

Gwak Yoon-seok, Director of Public Relations Planning at the province, stated, "Through this survey, we confirmed the high support of residents for the Gyeonggi Province Disaster Basic Income," and added, "We will launch a rapid consumption promotion campaign so that the Gyeonggi Province Disaster Basic Income can help small business owners and neighborhood markets in difficulty and revive the local economy."
