Hyundai Wia Creates Fine Dust Reduction Forest Path on Elementary School Commute Route
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hyundai Wia announced on the 29th that it selected Deokseong Elementary School in Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi-do as a 'Hyundai Wia Chorok School' in collaboration with the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation and held a plaque ceremony.
Hyundai Wia Chorok School is a social contribution project that creates forests blocking fine dust along school commuting routes as part of Hyundai Wia’s social contribution direction called 'Green Move.' At the end of last year, Hyundai Wia selected Namyang Elementary School in Changwon-si, Gyeongnam as the first Chorok School and created a forest there.
Hyundai Wia planted a total of 1,500 trees, including evergreen trees and azaleas, along a 100m commuting route following the fence of Deokseong Elementary School to create a forest with a high fine dust reduction effect. This is to block vehicle exhaust gases and harmful substances passing in front of the elementary school. Deokseong Elementary School is adjacent to Deokyeong-daero, where many trucks use the Uiwang Container Base and Obong Station, a logistics-only train station, so exposure to harmful substances was relatively high.

A total of 180 pots of plants with air purification effects, such as Hoya, Abies fern, and Stucky, were arranged so that students can breathe clean air indoors as well. In addition, eco-friendly rest benches were installed in the school playground to ensure clean air can be enjoyed both inside and outside the school at all times.
