Minister Park Yang-woo of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Joins the 'Thanks to You Challenge' Campaign
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Park Yang-woo, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, joined the 'Thanks to You Challenge' campaign to support medical staff nationwide battling the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and citizens enduring difficult times due to social distancing.
On the 28th, Minister Park posted a video on Facebook in which he learned sign language directly from a sign language interpreter and expressed, "Thank you and respect to all COVID-19 medical staff. Stay strong, people of the Republic of Korea."
Minister Park said, "You all must be familiar with the 'Thanks to You' movement that conveys gratitude and respect to frontline medical workers fighting COVID-19," adding, "Since the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism oversees sign language along with the Korean language, I tried writing a video letter in sign language."
The 'Thanks to You Challenge' is a public participation campaign where people upload photos or videos of sign language gestures meaning 'respect' and 'pride' on social networking services (SNS) with three hashtags: '#덕분에캠페인' '#덕분에챌린지' '#의료진덕분에'.
