Jeon Hae-cheol Declares Candidacy for Ruling Party Floor Leader: "Driving Moon Administration's Success through Strong Party-Government Cooperation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Jeon Hae-cheol, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, officially announced his candidacy for the Democratic Party floor leader election to be held on the 7th.
On the afternoon of the 28th, Jeon held a press conference at the National Assembly and said, "To overcome the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis, a floor leader who can communicate with the Blue House based on trust and deliver definite results through work is needed."
He emphasized, "I will lead strong party-government cooperation so that the ruling party, the Democratic Party, can take the initiative in political planning and coordination of major national tasks and management of key achievements, and based on this, I will drive not only the overcoming of the COVID-19 crisis but also the success of the Moon Jae-in administration."
Jeon also stressed the importance of a 'working National Assembly.'
Jeon explained, "We must prioritize institutional improvements that enable the National Assembly to fulfill its responsibilities and duties, such as the operation system of a permanent National Assembly and the mandatory convening of standing committees and subcommittees. Based on this, we need to push forward reform legislation and livelihood legislation that were not processed in the 20th National Assembly and achieve visible results."
He added, "Party operations must change from elite leadership decided by a few to collective intelligence leadership. I will ensure that all members lead party-government cooperation centered on standing committees in major policy decisions."
He also pledged, "I will establish an effective support system so that party operations are member-centered. The party will support institutional improvements that members are determined to pursue as representative legislative brands according to their expertise and areas of interest."
