Ministry of Foreign Affairs Launches Online Passport Simplified Service... Civil Service Expanded from 2 to 10 Types
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that, as part of government innovation and in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, it will provide online simplified passport services such as passport loss reporting and issuance of passport-related certificates through the government’s representative portal 'Government24' starting from the 28th.
Until now, online civil petition services related to passports were limited to two types?lost passport inquiry and passport issuance status inquiry?available on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ passport information website, but going forward, this will be expanded to 10 types through Government24.
The annual number of various passport-related certificate issuances and passport loss reports by our citizens reaches approximately 140,000 cases (based on 2019), and with the implementation of this online simplified passport service, it is expected that the economic and time burdens will be greatly reduced as citizens will be able to reduce the number of visits to civil service counters.
Additionally, congestion at passport civil service offices will improve and waiting times for petitioners will decrease, thereby enhancing user convenience and contributing to the practice of social distancing to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
