Lee In-young: "Supplementary Budget and Korea Development Bank Act to be Passed at Tomorrow's Plenary Session... Digital Sex Crimes Will Be Eradicated Forever"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Lee In-young, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged the passage of the second supplementary budget bill for emergency disaster relief payments, along with the Korea Development Bank Act and the protection of key industries, at the plenary session scheduled for the 29th. He also called for the passage of the “Telegram n-beonbang Recurrence Prevention Act” to eradicate digital sex crimes.
At the floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 28th, Floor Leader Lee said, “I request that the plenary session tomorrow pass the supplementary budget along with the Special Act on Donations for Emergency Disaster Relief Payments, the Korea Development Bank Act, and the state guarantee consent for bonds of the Key Industry Safety Fund.”
He added, “These are all essential measures for our economy. I ask the standing committees and the budget committee to complete their reviews without delay to ensure that there is no disruption, even a small one, to key industries.”
Regarding the “Telegram n-beonbang Recurrence Prevention Act,” he said, “Tomorrow, the National Assembly must unite to permanently eradicate digital sex crimes.” He expressed, “The laws passed by the National Assembly were lax. I sincerely apologize for the legislation that failed to properly punish the perpetrators. Although late, we will conclude the eradication of digital sex crimes within the 20th National Assembly.”
He continued, “Criminals involved in child and adolescent sex crimes will be barred from attending school or employment. Stalking, which drives a person’s daily life into fear, will also be punished,” emphasizing, “The National Assembly will not let up until the day digital sex crimes completely disappear in the Republic of Korea. I hope tomorrow will be the first day to fulfill this promise.”
Regarding the response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), Floor Leader Lee said, “I hope the National Assembly can unite in passing legislation to establish a robust quarantine system,” and added, “The most urgent bill to be passed tomorrow is the Health Crisis Response Act for the development and rapid approval of COVID-19 treatments.”
He further stated, “We cannot repeat the same mistakes. Everyone must work together on a groundbreaking public healthcare strengthening operation,” emphasizing, “Passing the bill within the session is crucial to give the quarantine authorities enough time to prepare. Please help the 20th National Assembly achieve a successful conclusion.”
