Guro-gu Provides Free Replacement of Undersized Private Drainage Facilities in Semi-basement Houses
Starting May 1, 100 households in low-lying semi-basement homes built before 1995 will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis... Existing 50·75mm drainage pipes to be replaced with 100mm or larger pipes, increasing drainage capacity by 1.8 to 4 times

Guro-gu (District Mayor Lee Seong) is carrying out the ‘Personal Drainage Facility Maintenance Support Project’ targeting households vulnerable to flooding.
On the 28th, Guro-gu announced that it will implement a free replacement project for personal drainage facilities within homes to prevent flood damage caused by heavy summer rains in advance.
‘Personal drainage facilities’ are systems designed to channel wastewater generated from buildings and land into the public sewer system. If the drainage facility capacity is insufficient, the risk of flood damage increases due to leaks and backflow.
In principle, the installation and management responsibility of personal drainage facilities lies with the building or land owner, but many neglect maintenance due to costs, administrative procedures, or tenant occupancy.
Accordingly, Guro-gu will provide free maintenance for personal drainage facilities with insufficient capacity as a proactive measure to prevent flood damage.
The project targets semi-basement houses in low-lying areas constructed before 1995, when drainage installation standards were first established. Drainage pipes with diameters of 50mm or 75mm will be replaced with pipes of 100mm or larger to meet current standards. The replacement work is expected to increase drainage capacity by 1.8 to 4 times.
The project period runs until November this year, and 100 households will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis starting May 1. Those wishing to apply should prepare documents such as the maintenance application form, consent form, and building register, and submit them by visiting the district office’s Water Management Division or by mail.
