Gyeonggi-do Implements 'Customized Precision Economic Policies' to Prepare for Post-Corona Era
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is implementing customized pinpoint economic policies such as job fairs, public job projects, and digital New Deal policies to overcome the employment crisis caused by the COVID-19 aftermath and prepare for the post-COVID era.
On the 27th, Gyeonggi Province held an "Emergency Job Countermeasure Headquarters Meeting for COVID-19 Response" at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Situation Room, attended by about 30 officials including Kim Gyu-sik, Director of Economic Planning, Moon Jin-young, CEO of the Job Foundation, and heads of departments.
At the meeting, the province reviewed the progress of job projects being promoted by each department in response to the economic shock caused by the spread of COVID-19 and focused on discussing future countermeasures.
First, from a mid- to long-term perspective, the province decided to convert the "Job Countermeasure Headquarters" into the "Emergency Economic Countermeasure Headquarters" to proactively respond to the employment crisis. This is a measure to discover and promote customized prescriptions reflecting the demands and effectiveness for residents.
Additionally, to foster the "service industry," which has high employment effects and added value, and to create jobs, the province plans to invest a total of 93.2 billion KRW in 28 projects this year, including building a convergence network such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), and operating the online lifelong learning platform GSEEK.
Furthermore, the province will expand the support targets of the "Job Policy Market Project" and newly launch the "Hope Work Support Project," which provides 500,000 KRW per month for two months as labor costs to vulnerable groups.
The province will also actively promote the establishment and activation of untact (untact: non-face-to-face) platforms suitable for COVID-19, such as a "non-face-to-face recruitment platform in the construction sector" for construction workers and an "e-commerce platform" for small business owners.
In addition, when COVID-19 stabilizes, the province plans to hold a "COVID-19 Job Fair" to support employment in urgent low-income jobs such as construction, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and nursing care, and provide services such as career change and training counseling to workers in affected industries and small business owners.
Moreover, the province will promote a "Digital New Deal" policy that links various digital technology application projects promoted by Gyeonggi Province and its affiliated public institutions, such as startup platforms, cyber marketplaces, and bus information systems, with job creation. To this end, a "Digital New Deal Countermeasure Headquarters Task Force (TF)" will be formed in the future to discover and promote employment and startup policies utilizing digital infrastructure.
Kim Gyu-sik, Director of Economic Planning of the province, emphasized, "In preparation for the post-COVID era, we will respond to the restructuring of future industrial structures with pinpoint prescriptions at the Gyeonggi Province level, such as fostering new service industries and digital New Deal policies, and strive to create quality jobs."
