[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Samsung QLED TV has recently been recognized for its technology by obtaining vision protection certifications from certification bodies in the United States and Germany.
According to Samsung Electronics on the 27th, Samsung QLED TV has recently received certifications from overseas certification bodies confirming its safety from various types of light that can cause vision deterioration or lesions, including not only blue light but also ultraviolet and infrared rays.
Blue light, ultraviolet, and infrared rays are known to cause various eye diseases such as vision deterioration, macular degeneration, and cataracts if exposure is severe. Since TVs are products frequently encountered in daily life, it is important to ensure that harmful levels of light are not emitted.
Earlier, on the 30th of last month, Samsung Electronics received verification of ‘Photobiological Safety (No Photobiological LED Hazard)’ from the U.S. safety certification body UL (Underwriters Laboratories). Photobiological safety is an inspection that measures and evaluates the degree to which artificial light emitted from LED-equipped devices is harmful to human health, such as the eyes or skin, according to standards set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
Additionally, on the 21st of this month, it was announced that Samsung received the ‘Safety for Eyes’ certification from the German certification body VDE (Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker).
Both UL and VDE awarded Samsung QLED TV the highest safety grade related to blue light, ultraviolet, and infrared rays, which is ‘Hazard Exempt.’
Samsung Electronics explained that Samsung QLED is the first TV to receive the highest grade for all three types of light. The models in question are the QLED 8K (Q900T) and QLED 4K (Q90T) products released earlier this year.
