As the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) spreads in Japan, Kyodo News and NHK reported that 103 new confirmed cases were reported in Tokyo Metropolis on the 25th.
The daily new confirmed cases in Tokyo have exceeded 100 for 12 consecutive days since the 14th of this month. The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Tokyo has reached 3,836.
It has been identified that the proportion of positive cases among those tested has sharply increased due to an insufficient number of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests.
Analyzing the positive rate on a weekly basis, Tokyo Shimbun reported that in the third week of March it was 32%, and in the third week of April it reached 63% in Tokyo.
Regarding the rising positive rate, a Tokyo Metropolitan official explained, "We are focusing testing on people suspected of infection and those who must be connected to treatment."
