Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don Resigns... Personal Reasons (Update)
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters reporters Ju Cheol-in and Kang Woo-kwon] It is reported that Oh Keo-don, Mayor of Busan, will hold a resignation press conference on the morning of the 23rd.
A representative of the Busan branch of the Democratic Party of Korea said on the 23rd, "There seems to be a major announcement regarding Mayor Oh in the afternoon."
Regarding the content of the major announcement, he said, "It seems to be related to his resignation and position, and I understand that the chairpersons of the city council have confirmed Mayor Oh's stance."
According to Busan Ilbo, after rumors of Mayor Oh's resignation surfaced, when confirming the resignation status with a staff member of a certain Busan National Assembly member, the expression "shocking" was reportedly heard.
Accordingly, although Mayor Oh, who had previously suffered from stomach cancer, was recently reported to have unfavorable health checkup results, speculation is arising that "there might be other reasons" for his resignation.
Earlier, Mayor Oh Keo-don voted privately in the April 15 general election. On the 15th, Busan City reported that Mayor Oh, accompanied by his wife, visited the 4th polling station in Namcheon 1-dong near the official residence in Namcheon-dong, Suyeong-gu, around 4:30 p.m. to cast his vote.
However, since Mayor Oh expressed his desire to keep things quiet, not only media cameras but also the city hall's own photography staff did not visit the polling station.
The scheduled voting time was also changed once that day. Initially, Mayor Oh planned to visit the polling station around 7 a.m., but the schedule was changed on the afternoon of the 14th, and the specific voting time was not disclosed until the morning due to Mayor Oh's request for privacy.
