Pay for Your Meal Immediately When You Show Your Face
LG CNS 'Facial Recognition Payment Service'
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] LG CNS has introduced a 'facial recognition payment service' that automatically processes payments upon recognizing a face.
According to LG CNS on the 23rd, the service has been piloted since last month at the underground cafeteria of its headquarters in Magok, Seoul. The device installed at the cafeteria serving counter identifies employees using artificial intelligence (AI) facial recognition technology and then automatically processes payments using pre-registered blockchain-based currency. LG CNS operates this payment system based on its own blockchain service platform called 'Monachain.'
Since payment is made simply by showing the face to the device, the process is more convenient than the existing methods of paying with a smart card or downloading an application and paying via QR code. The facial recognition payment service eliminates contact between the machine and people during payment, reducing the risk of virus infections such as the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
LG CNS plans to expand the number of stores where the facial recognition payment service can be applied, reflecting the results of the pilot operation.
