Yeonggwang-gun to Accept Applications for 'Public Interest Direct Payment System' Starting Next Month on the 1st
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeon Seong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Jun-seong) announced on the 22nd that it will accept applications for the fully revamped Public Interest Direct Payment System from this year, starting from next month 1st until June 30th.
Earlier, on the 21st, the county confirmed the payment requirements, standards, and unit prices for small-scale direct payments and area direct payments as the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ “Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Preservation of Agricultural Income” amendment passed the Cabinet meeting.
The revamped Public Interest Direct Payment System pays the same unit price regardless of the cultivated crop, but for farms meeting all the small-scale direct payment requirements, it pays 1.2 million KRW annually for farmland of 0.5 hectares or less regardless of area.
To receive the small-scale direct payment, eight requirements must be met, including that the total comprehensive income outside agriculture of all members in the farm household must be less than 45 million KRW.
If the requirements for the small-scale direct payment cannot be met, applicants can choose to apply for the area direct payment instead.
The standard area brackets for the area direct payment are divided into three stages: 2 hectares or less, 2 to 6 hectares, and over 6 hectares, and the total amount received is the sum of the amounts calculated by applying the payment unit price for each bracket to the total area of the farmland applied for.
The farmland and farmer requirements for the public interest direct payment target maintain the existing farmland and farmer requirements for rice, field crops, and disadvantaged condition direct payments to ensure the stable introduction of the Public Interest Direct Payment System.
Also, as the compliance items for farms and farmers eligible for the basic direct payment system have expanded (from 3 to 17), failure to comply will result in a reduction of direct payments, so they must be faithfully followed.
