This is because the increase in disposable waste, which has become a concern, has risen alongside the consumption of delivery food and processed foods due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
Lock&Lock announced on the 22nd that since February, it has been conducting the 'Love for Planet' resource circulation campaign at all offline stores of PlaceLL, collecting old plastic airtight containers. As of the end of March, about 1,000 consumers have participated, and the collected plastic airtight containers amount to 350 kg. This corresponds to about 1,600 airtight containers of 910 ml capacity.
Lock&Lock offers consumers a coupon for a 20% discount on new airtight containers when they bring in old plastic airtight containers, regardless of the brand.
This campaign will continue until the end of next month. The collected waste airtight containers will be reborn as new products or public facilities through the research and development (R&D) technology of the environmental company TerraCycle, together with plastic waste retrieved from the sea by the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation.
A Lock&Lock official said, "Although consumer visits to offline stores have decreased due to the COVID-19 situation, the participation of about 1,000 consumers is seen as an effect of heightened awareness of the need for environmental conservation."
Samkwang Glass also conducts an annual environmental campaign called 'No Plastic, Yes Glass!' Last year, through this campaign, they collected over 10,000 waste plastic containers. This year, they are running a consumer participation donation campaign called 'Happiness of 10,000 Won, Donation of 10,000 Won' alongside it, which Samkwang Glass says has received a high response. The campaign allows consumers to purchase three selected Glasslock products for 10,000 Won during a set period, and the same products are donated directly to the environmental organization Women’s Environmental Network. The donated products are made from tempered glass Tampermax material produced at Samkwang Glass’s domestic factory using natural raw materials, which can be recycled without concerns about environmental hormones. The campaign runs for one month from the 1st to the 30th of this month.
A Samkwang Glass official explained, "Last year, from June 5 to 30, we held the same campaign to commemorate 'Environment Day,' and this year, the response is better, so sales are expected to nearly double compared to last year," adding, "Since it is a simple method where anyone can donate to environmental organizations just by purchasing products, participation rates are high and the response is positive."
