8 Organizations Including Korea Tourism Organization Achieve 'Excellence' in Win-Win Growth
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 22nd that it evaluated the "2019 Degree of Win-Win Growth" for 58 public institutions and released the results.
This win-win growth evaluation divided public institutions into public enterprise type (28), quasi-government type (26), and other types (4), and conducted relative evaluations within the same category. The evaluation results were tallied as 8 excellent, 21 good, 20 average, and 9 needing improvement institutions by grade.
Among them, 10 institutions (17.2%) improved their grade compared to the previous year, while 12 institutions (20.7%) declined. Notably, Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation, Korea Tourism Organization, and National Pension Service improved their evaluation grade by two levels compared to last year.
This evaluation was conducted through the Public Institution Win-Win Growth Evaluation Committee, composed of 24 private experts from academia, research, and related associations. The committee confirmed the win-win growth promotion performance submitted by the evaluated institutions and finalized the results after reflecting the perception of SMEs.
This year, public institutions’ activities to overcome the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have also been prominent. The efforts of public institutions to overcome COVID-19 will be reflected in the 2020 public institution win-win growth evaluation.
The public institution win-win growth evaluation has been conducted annually since 2007 to ensure the public sector plays a leading role in mutual cooperation. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups plans to expand the evaluation target institutions from 2020 to the level of institutions subject to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance’s public institution management evaluation to strengthen the leading role of public institutions in win-win growth.
An official from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups said, "We are currently considering switching from a relative evaluation system to an absolute evaluation system to encourage active and voluntary win-win growth efforts in the public sector," adding, "The 2019 evaluation results will be individually notified to the evaluated institutions and will also be reflected in the public institution management evaluation conducted annually by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance."
