Busan City Gijang-gun Health Center Installs 'Bidirectional Walking-Through Booth'
Providing Safe and Rapid Testing
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] On the 21st, Busan Gijang-gun Public Health Center announced that it has installed an efficient 'bidirectional walking-through booth' for mass testing of COVID-19 infections among overseas arrivals and community infections at its screening clinic.
The bidirectional walking-through booth installed by Gijang-gun Public Health Center is a glove-replaceable multipurpose walking-through booth developed using domestic technology, and it is a product currently under international patent application with the Korean Intellectual Property Office as of the 9th of this month.
Unlike the existing negative pressure tent-type screening clinics where medical staff wearing protective suits and the test subject enter the negative pressure tent to collect specimens, this bidirectional walking-through booth can adjust negative and positive pressure through a simple filter replacement.
Additionally, by incorporating glove box technology, it provides a level of airtightness equivalent to protective suits needed on-site, allowing medical staff to safely collect specimens inside the booth without wearing protective suits when used as a positive pressure booth.
This not only reduces the fatigue of medical staff caused by wearing protective suits for long hours during each test but also significantly decreases the amount of medical waste such as protective clothing and goggles.
Moreover, while the negative pressure tent requires at least 30 minutes for disinfection and ventilation for reuse, the walking-through booth allows the next test after about 5 minutes of natural ventilation, enabling faster and safer response during large-scale testing.
