"Needing Living Expenses," 20s Arrested for Embezzling 11.3 Million Won in 'Mask Sales Scam'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] A man in his 20s who deceived people by pretending to sell masks on an online secondhand trading site and extorted about 11.3 million won was arrested by the police.
The Gunsan Police Station in Jeonbuk announced on the 17th that they have detained A (21) on charges of fraud and are investigating him.
A is suspected of posting false advertisements claiming to sell masks on an online secondhand trading site from February 22 to the 25th of last month, and collecting payments, thereby defrauding 32 people of about 11.3 million won over the course of about a month.
The police caught A by analyzing his bank accounts and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
During the police investigation, A reportedly stated, "I did it because I needed living expenses."
