'Incheon K-Pop (INK) Concert' Receives Highest Rating in Korea Tourism Organization Contest
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon Tourism Organization announced on the 17th that '2020 INK Concert (Incheon K-POP Concert)', Incheon's representative Hallyu content, was selected as the highest grade in the K-POP concert support project competition hosted by the Korea Tourism Organization this year, securing 200 million KRW in national funding.
The Korea Tourism Organization has been inviting applications for K-POP concert tourism products held by the private sector and local governments since 2017 to expand the attraction of foreign tourists and commercialize K-POP content as Hallyu tourism products. It supports overseas promotion and marketing costs for excellent concerts.
This year, a total of 10 local governments participated in the competition, and among them, the INK Concert received the highest grade, securing the largest national funding of 200 million KRW.
Since 2009, Incheon City has been hosting the INK Concert (formerly Hallyu Tourism Concert), attracting more than 10,000 foreign tourists annually. Over the past decade, a total of 72,083 foreign tourists have participated, establishing its position as a representative tourism-type K-POP concert in South Korea.
This year's INK Concert has been postponed from its original schedule due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and is scheduled to be held at Munhak Stadium on October 10.
Min Minhong, President of Incheon Tourism Organization, said, "The excellence of the INK Concert, which is the result of Incheon City's efforts over the past 10 years, and its overseas marketing strategy have been recognized, leading to good results. Although domestic and international marketing is difficult due to COVID-19, we will do our best to make it a unique tourism festival in Incheon by combining the concert with local cultural experience content."
