China Reports 26 New COVID-19 Cases... "11 Are Domestic Infections"
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] On the 16th, China reported 26 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 66 asymptomatic infections in one day.
On the 17th, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, there were 26 new confirmed COVID-19 cases. Fifteen of these were imported cases infected overseas and entering China. Eleven were domestic infections, with new confirmed cases added in Guangdong Province (5), Heilongjiang Province (3), Shandong Province (2), and Liaoning Province (1).
So far, a total of 82,367 people have been confirmed with COVID-19 in China. Among them, 3,342 have died and 77,944 have been discharged, leaving 1,081 confirmed patients currently receiving treatment in hospitals. The current number of suspected cases is 62, and 8,970 close contacts are under medical observation.
There were 66 newly reported asymptomatic infections in one day. The total number of asymptomatic infections currently under medical observation has reached 1,038. Asymptomatic infections refer to people who test positive for COVID-19 but do not show specific symptoms such as fever, cough, or sore throat.
Outside mainland China, in the Greater China region, a total of 1,457 confirmed COVID-19 cases have been cumulatively reported: 1,017 in Hong Kong, 45 in Macao, and 395 in Taiwan.
Meanwhile, Heilongjiang Province, where imported cases from Russia continue to increase, has seen Governor Wang Wantao hold COVID-19-related meetings for two consecutive days, ordering strengthened epidemic prevention measures.

Governor Wang held a video conference on COVID-19 prevention the previous day and instructed, "Learning from the recurrence of infectious diseases in Harbin City, epidemic prevention work must be approached with a serious attitude rather than formality, and leakage points must be identified and problems promptly improved." Harbin City announced on its website that the head of the municipal health commission and other health sector officials have been dismissed.
