Dongjak-gu Strengthens Management of COVID-19 Self-Quarantine Cases
Providing rental phones to smartphone non-owners (2G phone owners or no phone) during self-quarantine... Install safety protection APP for self-quarantined individuals and enter symptoms daily... Rental phones collected the day after quarantine ends
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) is strengthening management by providing rental phones to self-quarantined individuals without smartphones.
Following the mandatory self-quarantine for all overseas arrivals starting April 1, the district has designated 224 staff members as dedicated officials to monitor the rapidly increasing number of self-quarantined individuals.
In particular, under the enhanced measures, symptoms are checked by phone three times a day during the first three days of self-quarantine. On the first day of monitoring, self-quarantined individuals are guided on hygiene rules and waste disposal methods and urged to comply with quarantine.
Additionally, overseas arrivals are required to install the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘Self-Quarantine Safety Protection’ application (APP) at the airport and input daily self-diagnosis results such as body temperature and respiratory symptoms. The same applies to those self-quarantined due to contact with confirmed domestic COVID-19 cases.
Accordingly, as a proactive response to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the district has secured its own rental phone supply through an agreement with KT Dongjak branch to prepare for the increasing number of self-quarantined individuals.
The rental phone support targets self-quarantined individuals without smartphones (those with 2G phones or no phone). Rental phones with the safety protection APP installed are provided to self-quarantined individuals to conduct daily symptom checks and GPS location tracking via the APP. Rental phones are collected the day after quarantine ends, checked for any issues, disinfected, and then provided to new self-quarantined individuals.
To prevent self-quarantined individuals from leaving their residence, a joint on-site inspection team operates with Dongjak Police Station. Through unannounced inspections including ▲confirmation of self-quarantined individuals’ exact location ▲listening to difficulties ▲health checks ▲delivery of hygiene supplies, awareness is raised among self-quarantined individuals, and legal action will be taken against those who leave without permission.
Currently, unauthorized departure from self-quarantine can result in imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million KRW for Korean nationals, and deportation for foreigners.
