Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education Enrolls Staff in Liability Insurance
Civil Compensation up to 200 Million KRW and Criminal Defense Costs up to 50 Million KRW
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 14th that, following last year, it has enrolled all teachers and staff (national, public, and private) in the province in liability insurance to ensure they can engage in educational activities and work with peace of mind and confidence.
Teacher and staff liability insurance is a system that compensates for legal liabilities arising from accidents caused by negligence during educational activities and work performance. Last year, it operated only for civil liability compensation, but this year, coverage for 'criminal defense costs' in cases of criminal charges such as child abuse has been added (expanded).
The newly introduced criminal defense costs refer to attorney fees when a teacher or staff member becomes a suspect, and do not cover cases of guilty verdicts or fines.
The compensation limit is up to 200 million KRW per civil accident and up to 50 million KRW per criminal case, with an annual total limit of 1.2 billion KRW for the Office of Education.
The coverage amount includes legally liable damages that the insured must pay to the victim and attorney fees paid by the insured, and the insurance premium is fully borne by the Office of Education.
