[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Jeong Bong-ju, Supreme Council Member of the Open Democratic Party, declared his resignation from the Supreme Council position on the 16th, stating, "I have received much love, but I deeply regret not meeting expectations and intend to take responsibility."
On the same day, Jeong posted on his Facebook, "I started by letting go of everything, but it was not enough. I apologize to the candidates who failed to enter the National Assembly," he said.
He also said, "I applaud the overwhelming victory of the Democratic Party of Korea and the Together Citizens' Party," emphasizing, "I do not want to be an obstacle."
He continued, "I wish for better politics and the success of the Moon Jae-in administration," adding, "If anyone felt uncomfortable or was hurt emotionally by me, I apologize, albeit belatedly."
Finally, he said, "I am still very lacking. It seems right to empty myself and step aside," and "I wish success and happiness to everyone's future."
