Chungnam Expands 'Partial Ban on Pig Movement' Areas to Block ASF Entry
[Asia Economy (Naepo) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is expanding the restricted areas for the movement of pigs and related materials.
The province announced on the 16th that it will expand the restricted areas for the movement of pigs, pig manure, and semen from the existing 7 regions?Incheon Ganghwa, Gyeonggi Paju, Yeoncheon, Gimpo, and Gangwon Cheorwon, Hwacheon, Yanggu?to 13 regions.
The additionally designated areas include 6 cities and counties: Gyeonggi Pocheon, Dongducheon, Yangju, and Gangwon Goseong, Inje, Sokcho. The province has communicated this information to the local Korean Pork Producers Association, slaughterhouses, and pig farming households.
The expansion of the restricted areas is a measure taken following the detection of the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus in wild boars around Hwacheon-gun and Goseong-gun in Gangwon Province.
This year, 480 cases of ASF have been confirmed in wild boars in the northern regions of Gyeonggi and Gangwon.

Im Seung-beom, head of the Animal Quarantine and Hygiene Division of the province, stated, “The expansion of the restricted areas is a stronger measure compared to other provinces, taken due to concerns about the spread and introduction of ASF within the region. The province plans to take any necessary measures to prevent ASF and asks for the active participation and cooperation of the residents.”
