Twitter Also Heats Up for General Election... Keyword Mentions Reach 1.1 Million
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Twitter announced on the 16th that the number of mentions of keywords related to the 21st National Assembly election reached 1.1 million.
According to Twitter, on the election day, the 15th, election-related keywords dominated Twitter's real-time trends. The top 5 most mentioned keywords were: 1st 'Gaepyo Bangsong (Vote Counting Broadcast)', 2nd 'Tupyo Wanryo (Vote Completed)', 3rd '#Korea_want_justice (Hanguk-eun Jeong-ui-reul Wonhanda)', 4th 'Eoreushindeul (Elderly)', and 5th 'Binil Janggap (Vinyl Gloves)'.
Certification tweets of vote completion by celebrities also continued. Among them, the vote certification tweet with the most retweets was by Suga, a member of the singer group Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS). His tweet encouraging voting was retweeted over 350,000 times and received more than 1 million 'Likes'.
The frequent mention of vinyl gloves seems to be due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). To prevent COVID-19, vinyl gloves distributed at polling stations were removed, and a campaign against stamping the ballot on the back of the hand as vote certification spread widely. Twitter explained that the keyword 'vinyl gloves' trended again after it was revealed that Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol voted without wearing vinyl gloves.
