Customs Service Announces Call for Research Papers on Customs Valuation and Item Classification
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Customs Service's Customs Valuation and Classification Institute is holding a contest for ‘Research Papers on Customs Valuation and Classification’ and ‘Commentaries on Customs Valuation Case Law’.
According to the Customs Valuation and Classification Institute on the 16th, the contest is designed to encourage academic and legal research activities in the private sector related to customs valuation (tax base) and classification (tariff rates), which form the basis for customs duties, and through this, to add fairness to the standards for customs duties.
First, the research paper contest will be held in two categories: customs valuation and classification. Participants can choose one of the recommended topics set by the Customs Valuation and Classification Institute for each category or freely decide their own topic. The research paper contest was first held in 2015 and is now in its 6th edition this year.
Additionally, the contest for commentaries on customs valuation case law will proceed by having participants present their opinions on legal issues from Supreme Court rulings related to customs valuation, including cases designated by the Customs Valuation and Classification Institute as well as other domestic and international court decisions.
Participation in the contest is possible by applying through the ‘Customs Research Contest’ website. The deadline for submitting papers and commentaries is until September, and the final results are scheduled to be announced in November.
Selected outstanding works after review will be awarded certificates and prize money under the name of the Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service, and excellent papers and commentaries will be published in book form.
For more detailed information, please check the contest website or the Customs Valuation and Classification Institute website.
