Kim Boo-kyum, the Democratic Party candidate seeking a fifth term, was defeated.
Candidate Joo entered the winning zone after 10 p.m. on the 15th. As of 00:19 on the 16th, Joo secured 50,418 votes (60.3%), comfortably outpacing Kim, who received 32,328 votes (38.7%).
If Joo confirms his victory, he is likely to become the only United Future Party lawmaker to win after changing constituencies. With this fifth term, he is also poised to become the longest-serving member within the party. After entering the safe zone for election, he expressed his thoughts, saying, "I will take the lead in building a Republic of Korea where justice, principles, and common sense prevail."
Candidate Kim Boo-kyum failed in his bid for a fifth term, unable to reclaim the glory from four years ago. The challenge of overcoming regionalism between Yeongnam and Honam was also halted.
