Jeonnam Fire Department Promotes Spring 'Mountain Accident Prevention Safety Measures'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) announced on the 15th that it will implement the 'Mountain Accident Prevention Safety Measures' until the 31st of next month, marking the spring season when mountain accidents occur most frequently throughout the year.
This mountain accident prevention plan will focus on minimizing face-to-face contact by maintaining safety facilities such as mountain first aid kits and mountain location signboards, and conducting mountain accident rescue training, considering the high-intensity 'social distancing' period due to 'COVID-19'.
Also, after the 'social distancing' period ends, a 'Mountain Trail Safety Keeper' program will be operated by deploying 119 rescue and first aid teams on major hiking trails to ensure the safety of hikers.
In the past three years, a total of 1,210 mountain accidents have occurred in Jeonnam. More than 400 accidents occur annually, with about 25% concentrated in the spring months of April and May.
The causes of accidents were mostly distress incidents with 282 cases (23.3%), followed by slips and falls with 186 cases (15.4%), and personal illnesses with 118 cases (9.8%).
