Third Death at Pyeongtaek US Military Base Within a Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] A soldier in his 50s died at the U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek. This is the third death following last month.
On the 14th, the U.S. Forces Korea announced that Sergeant Timothy Jay Presley (54), from New York City, New York State, passed away at Pyeongtaek St. Mary's Hospital. At Camp Humphreys, Private First Class Jo Gloria (25, female) and Sergeant Clay Welch (20) died on the 21st and 22nd of last month, respectively.
The U.S. side stated that Sergeant Presley's death is not related to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). He died on the 10th due to natural causes.
Sergeant Presley was a fuel supply specialist and served as a squad leader in the 194th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion under the 2nd Sustainment Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Humphreys. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 2007 and was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division in May last year. This was his second tour in Korea. After his first tour in Korea, he was transferred to Fort Drum in New York and was deployed to Iraq in 2008 and Afghanistan in 2010.

Lieutenant Colonel Natasha Clark, commander of the 194th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, expressed condolences, saying, "The hearts and prayers of all unit members will be with Sergeant Presley's family. We sincerely offer our condolences to his family and friends. Sergeant Presley was a core member of our team, and we are deeply saddened to lose him."
