View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Ministry of Education has decided to improve functions such as separating servers to alleviate network overload ahead of the second online school opening scheduled for the 16th.
On the 13th, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye and Minister of Science and ICT Choi Ki-young visited the Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) to hold a joint inspection meeting focused on these matters.
Present at the site were related companies including SKB, Naver NBP, MS, Ubion, which develop and operate the learning management system, as well as the head of the National Information Society Agency, KT, LG U+, and system and network experts.
Regarding the EBS Online Class, which experienced a server connection error once again that morning, the Ministry of Education decided to separate the server used by teachers for uploading from the server used by students for downloading and to additionally introduce space capable of storing high-performance content. They will also switch from a centralized login method to a school-specific distributed login method. They plan to conduct situation assessment consulting in cooperation with LG CNS and KT.
For e-Hakseupteo, expected to be mainly used by elementary school students, the number of servers will be expanded from 7 regional servers to 12 by the 15th. To resolve inconvenience, EBS elementary content will be registered directly on e-Hakseupteo itself so that teachers do not have to download EBS elementary content and then re-upload it to e-Hakseupteo. Additionally, servers for emergency situations will be prepared, and e-Hakseupteo call center staff will be increased starting from the 16th.
The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and ICT plan to strengthen cooperation with the three major telecommunications companies and cloud providers to enhance monitoring of network stability due to increased communication usage from the rise in online learning and to continue collaborative systems.
Deputy Prime Minister Yoo said, "We must conduct thorough pre-inspections to prepare for all possible scenarios and maintain a close cooperative system among related agencies so that swift action can be taken in emergencies."
