Bucheon City to Prosecute 3 Residents for Unauthorized Quarantine Violations (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] Three residents of Bucheon-si, Gyeonggi Province, who were self-quarantined due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), left their quarantine locations and were caught by health authorities.
Bucheon City announced on the 13th that it plans to report three individuals to the police for violating the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act: brothers A and B, men in their 20s, and a female acquaintance C of the same age group.
They had stayed in Hungary and returned to Korea on the 6th, then self-quarantined at their homes in Bucheon. It was found that they violated self-quarantine rules by going out the day before their quarantine was to be lifted, eight days early, and by not responding to phone monitoring from health authorities.
The Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act stipulates that those who do not comply with self-quarantine measures may face imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won.
