"End to Pesticide Egg Worries"... Gyeonggi-do Patents Eco-Friendly Organic Acid Insecticide
[Asia Economy (Uijeongbu) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has developed an eco-friendly chicken mite insecticide.
The Northern Gyeonggi Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory announced on the 13th that it has developed an 'eco-friendly chicken mite insecticide' using organic acids and obtained a patent. Organic acids are acidic substances composed of organic compounds, with acetic acid, citric acid, lactic acid, formic acid, and oxalic acid being representative examples.
Following the insecticide egg scandal in 2017 and the emerging need to develop insecticides harmless to humans and nature, the Northern Gyeonggi Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory conducted over a year of research and development from June 2018 to July last year, developing the eco-friendly chicken mite insecticide and obtaining a patent from the Korean Intellectual Property Office last month.
This eco-friendly insecticide can be used for pest control at a relatively low cost and is easy to use, allowing small and vulnerable farms to use it without burden. For a farm with 50,000 chickens, disinfection can be done for 500,000 KRW.
In particular, since it is manufactured using organic acids naturally present in the environment and disinfects by denaturing proteins, it is much safer than conventional chemical disinfectants and has the advantage of leaving no residual substances, making it eco-friendly.
The eco-friendly insecticide should be used after wearing protective goggles and a mask.

Ok Cheon-seok, director of the Northern Gyeonggi Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory, said, "Various eco-friendly pest control methods and insecticides have emerged rapidly, but in actual egg-producing farms, their use was difficult due to costs exceeding 10 million KRW for a 50,000-chicken farm or side effects such as reduced laying rates after insecticide use. With this research and development, we have laid the foundation for producing eco-friendly insecticides and disinfectants and will accelerate the development of formulations going forward."
