3 Days Left Until the General Election... 1 in 3 Voters "Undecided on Which Candidate to Vote For"
The Top Priority When Choosing a Candidate Is Their Affiliated Party (31.1%)
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] With the April 15 general election just three days away, it has been revealed that one out of three voters has not yet decided which candidate to vote for.
According to the Central Election Commission's public opinion survey on the "Interest in the 21st National Assembly Election and Intention to Participate in Voting," 36% of respondents answered that they had "not yet decided." On the other hand, 64% responded that they had decided on a candidate to vote for. This is 18.1 percentage points and 5.8 percentage points higher than the 19th National Assembly election (45.9%) and the 20th National Assembly election (58.2%), respectively.
When asked about the factors considered in choosing a candidate, the highest response was party affiliation (31.1%). This was followed by policies and pledges (25.2%), personality and capability (25.2%), and political experience (5.5%). In the survey for the 20th National Assembly election, the highest response was personality and capability (33.3%), followed by policies and pledges (28.2%), party affiliation (18.9%), and political experience (6.7%).
When asked about their intention to participate in voting, 79% responded that they would "definitely vote." By age group, the responses were 18-29 years old (60.4%), 30s (75.6%), 40s (84.4%), 50s (80.3%), 60s (86.6%), and 70 and above (90.9%). The Election Commission explained, "Compared to the first survey (72.7%), the proportion of those actively intending to vote increased by 6.3 percentage points, and the intention to participate in voting increased across all age groups."
Regarding the sources of information needed when selecting a candidate, "Internet and social networks (SNS)" was the highest at 31.2%, followed by "media coverage such as TV, newspapers, and radio" (23.9%), and "election promotional materials from parties and candidates" (18.6%).

Meanwhile, this survey was conducted by the Central Election Commission, commissioned to the Korea Gallup Survey Institute, targeting 1,500 voters aged 18 and over nationwide on the 5th and 6th of this month using RDD method for wired and wireless phones and telephone interviews (CATI). The response rate was 14.4%, and the sampling error was ±2.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
