Seven Eleven "'Kon' Ice Cream Popular... 'Hershey Choco and Milk Soft Kon' Released"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] The number of consumers seeking high-priced ice cream in 'cone' form at convenience stores has increased.
Seven Eleven announced on the 8th that, after analyzing ice cream consumption trends over the past five years, sales of high-priced products priced over 1,500 won have significantly increased every year.
According to Seven Eleven, in 2016, the sales composition ratio of ice cream priced over 1,500 won was only 17.9%. However, it recorded an average annual growth rate of more than 5 percentage points, reaching nearly 40% in March 2020.
Seven Eleven expects that high-priced ice cream will surpass half of sales within two years and take the position as the main product category of convenience store ice cream.
This change includes the growth of cone ice cream. In the past, cones with high milk fat content showed relatively high winter sales along with monaka-type (sandwich-type ice cream). However, as dessert consumption culture has spread, cones have now established themselves as a year-round product.
In fact, last year, cone ice cream sales grew by 38% compared to the previous year, recording a sales composition ratio of 36.4%, surpassing bar (33.3%) sales for the first time. This year (January to March), it continues to grow with a sales composition ratio of 37.5%, further solidifying its dominant position.
Accordingly, Seven Eleven launched the ‘Hershey Choco and Milk Soft Cone (2,500 won)’ ahead of the full-fledged ice cream peak season. The Hershey Choco and Milk Soft Cone is a collaborative product with the global chocolate brand ‘Hershey’ and is a differentiated strategic product following ‘Maeil Milk Flavor Soft Cone,’ ‘Bbangppare Strawberry,’ and ‘Cantata Soft Cone.’
Unlike typical soft cones, this product combines two flavors?Hershey chocolate and milk?allowing consumers to enjoy the softness of milk and the sweet taste of chocolate simultaneously. Seven Eleven expects the Hershey Choco and Milk Soft Cone to quickly settle in the market as ice cream demand surged last May.
