[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin] Pro-Moon (친문) Open Democratic Party proportional representation candidates have filed a complaint with the prosecution against Yoon Seok-yeol Prosecutor General's wife Kim Gun-hee (48) and mother-in-law Choi Mo (74) on charges including forgery of private documents and stock price manipulation.
On the 7th, three individuals?former Blue House Public Service Discipline Secretary Choi Kang-wook, former Ministry of Justice Human Rights Bureau Chief Hwang Hee-seok, and lawyer Jo Dae-jin?submitted a complaint against Kim and Choi to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-dong, Seoul.
In the complaint, they applied charges against Kim related to the suspicion of stock price manipulation of Deutsche Motors and violations of the Capital Markets and Financial Investment Services Act (market manipulation). They also applied charges of forgery of private documents and complicity in fraud related to the suspicion of forgery of bank balance certificates against Choi.
Choi was charged with fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes and violations of the Medical Service Act related to a medical corporation in Paju.
Before submitting the complaint, former Secretary Choi told reporters, "Despite many suspicions being raised, there has been no clear progress in the investigation, which led us to file the complaint."
He added, "The prosecution has pledged to conduct investigations without sanctuary and has even carried out investigations that could be seen as excessive, but many worry that they hesitate or falter when it comes to those personally connected to the Prosecutor General. I believe that excellent prosecutors will demonstrate their capabilities to dispel such concerns and will soon reveal the truth."
Former Bureau Chief Hwang said, "Although prosecutors have acted as champions of justice, it is truly regrettable that they resemble mice in front of a cat when it comes to the Prosecutor General's family issues. If investigations into Prosecutor General Yoon's family continue to be improperly conducted, reduced, or omitted in this state, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials will inevitably have to revisit issues such as the prosecution's dereliction of duty or negligence."
