30s Man Who Insulted 'Lovelyz' Member's Grades... Fined 1 Million Won in Appeal Trial Too
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] A man in his 30s who posted sexually insulting comments targeting a member of the girl group Lovelyz on the internet was sentenced to a fine again in the appellate court.
According to the court on the 7th, the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Appeal Division 9 (Chief Judge Choi Han-don) sentenced A (36), who was tried on charges of insult, to a fine of 1 million won, the same as in the first trial.
The court stated, "A insulted the victim through an internet site with wide reach," and added, "The degree of insulting expressions was severe enough to cause humiliation not only to the victim herself and her family and acquaintances but also to the victim’s fans."
It continued, "Although A’s posts did not occupy a large portion of the entire bulletin board, A deliberately used provocative and misogynistic titles to attract users’ attention," but also noted, "A admitted to the crime and showed remorse, and the fact that he has no prior criminal record are factors favorable to A," explaining the sentencing rationale.
A was previously indicted last April for posting sexually insulting comments specifying the name of a member on an online community.

During the trial, A petitioned that "the bulletin board receives thousands of posts daily, so the post in question does not occupy a large portion of the entire board."
