Candidate Jeong In-hwa: "Emergency Disaster Relief Funds Must Be Provided to All Citizens"
Unnecessary Costs and Time in Selective Payment Process... Some Citizens Left Out
Universal Payments Should Be Promoted Like Major Countries Including the US
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Candidate Jeong In-hwa (Suncheon·Gwangyang·Gokseong·Gurye (Eul), Independent) stated on the 7th that the scope of emergency disaster relief payments should be expanded from the current bottom 70% income earners to universal payments for all citizens in order to revive the struggling livelihood economy due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Candidate Jeong released a press statement saying, “The government said in March this year that it would select 70% of the population based on health insurance premiums, but many citizens point out problems with this standard, such as workplace subscribers being assessed based on 2018 income,” and expressed concern that “if recipients are selected based on income and property as is currently done, unnecessary administrative costs and time will be incurred, and some citizens may be excluded from support due to a difference of just a few thousand won in income.”
Candidate Jeong emphasized, “Providing emergency disaster relief payments to all citizens without exception is a better way to fulfill the purpose of reviving the struggling lower-income economy due to COVID-19,” and added, “Since major overseas countries like the United States have decided on universal payments, I will persuade the government and the National Assembly during the upcoming supplementary budget discussions to ensure that emergency disaster relief payments are provided to all citizens.”
