Bucheon City Provides Up to 1 Million KRW Support for Workers in Blind Spots Such as Unpaid Leave and Freelancers
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province will provide living stabilization support funds to workers in blind spots such as unpaid leave workers, special-type workers, and freelancers who are struggling due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The city plans to support about 1,250 people by investing a budget of 1.25 billion KRW (including 950 million KRW in national funds). From April, it will pay up to 1 million KRW over two months, 500,000 KRW per month.
The support targets are workers in industries directly affected by COVID-19, including ▲ unpaid leave or furloughed workers in small businesses with fewer than 50 employees ▲ transportation industry such as substitute drivers and charter bus drivers ▲ education industry such as private tutors and cultural center instructors ▲ arts and performance industry such as artists and performance staff.
The city plans to prioritize support for low-income groups with income below 100% of the median income standard.
Applications for support can be made by visiting the administrative welfare center or Bucheon City Hall Job Policy Division from the 6th to the 11th of next month, or by email. Eligibility requirements and application forms can be checked on the city’s website.

Mayor Jang Deokcheon said, "We will directly support workers affected by the spread of COVID-19 to increase effectiveness and citizens’ sense of impact," adding, "We expect this to be a practical measure that tightly fills the employment blind spots facing difficulties due to the sudden economic crisis."
