Yeonggwang-gun Adds Additional Selections for 'Forest Income Project Support Recipients'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeon Seong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Jun-seong) announced on the 6th that it recently held the 2nd Forestry Subcommittee meeting to promote the timely cultivation of clean forest products and additionally selected ‘Forestry Income Project Support Recipients.’
The county finalized a project budget of 490 million KRW across 8 sectors for 50 farms, including apple jujube, astringent persimmon, shiitake cultivation, and lawn cultivation.
Through this project, support will be provided for eco-friendly forest product compost, packaging materials, establishment of forest crop production complexes, purchase of production equipment, storage and drying facilities, and distribution materials.
In particular, starting this year, in accordance with government policy, the subsidy rate for forestry income projects has been changed from the previous 40% (60% self-payment) to 50%, reducing the burden on forestry workers.
Forestry is an industry that requires various policy supports for stable income generation due to its long-term and low profitability and small production scale, resulting in lower forestry income compared to other sectors.
The county has been fostering the ‘Walnut 100 Project’ since 2016 through walnut tree planting contest projects to develop the area as a major walnut production region to increase forestry farm income.
The apple jujube cultivation group dreams of growing crisp and sweet apple jujubes to become a representative fruit of Korea.

A county official said, “44% of the county’s total area is forestland, which has great development potential, and interest in clean forest products, forest recreation, and healing is continuously increasing due to social changes such as aging and rising well-being demand. We will actively strive to increase forestry workers’ income by maintaining fairness with other sectors in subsidy projects that can produce short-term income forest products, expanding infrastructure necessary for stable production, and strengthening competitiveness.”
