Shinsegae Food Launches Healthy Bread as Meal Replacement Using Nutritious Ingredients
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Shinsegae Food announced on the 6th that it will launch meal replacement health breads made with healthy ingredients.
Shinsegae Food recently focused on the increase in consumers enjoying bread as a substitute for meals at home due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). In fact, the sales ranking of sliced bread, which was usually in the top 10 at the bakery stores ‘E-Bakery’ and ‘Traders Bakery’ operated by Shinsegae Food within E-Mart and Traders, rose to 3rd place after February, when COVID-19 spread. Additionally, the sales of bagels and morning rolls, which are often purchased as breakfast substitutes, increased by about 20%.
Following this trend, Shinsegae Food has released two types of breads made with healthy ingredients, such as ‘Sugar-Free Olive Morning Roll’ and ‘Honey Tangjong Sliced Bread,’ so that consumers can enjoy breads frequently eaten as meal replacements with greater peace of mind.
The ‘Sugar-Free Olive Morning Roll’ is characterized by maintaining the soft and chewy texture and flavor of the morning roll without using any sugar, which is usually added to achieve the bread’s soft texture and color. It also contains plenty of black olives, which help prevent aging and break down cholesterol, allowing consumers to enjoy both a savory taste and health benefits.
The ‘Honey Tangjong Sliced Bread’ is made using the tangjong method, where flour is kneaded with boiling water daily at the store, maximizing a moist and chewy texture. It is also easier to digest compared to regular bread, making it perfect as a breakfast substitute. Additionally, it contains domestically produced honey, providing a richer flavor.
As these breads are offered as meal replacements, the prices are set reasonably to avoid burdening consumers: the ‘Sugar-Free Olive Morning Roll’ is priced at 2,980 KRW (bundle of 20), and the ‘Honey Tangjong Sliced Bread’ is priced at 3,980 KRW (,080g). They are available at 18 E-Mart Traders stores nationwide and on SSG.com.
