[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jung Soon-gyun) will provide 1 million KRW to academies and private institutes in the area that voluntarily close for more than two weeks until the 24th of this month, in accordance with the government's strengthened social distancing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The support targets a total of 3,414 locations, including 2,488 academies and 926 private institutes registered with the Gangnam-Seocho Office of Education. Support funds will be provided if they participate in continuous closure for at least 14 days during the period from the 1st to the 24th. To this end, the district secured 2.3 billion KRW from the disaster management fund.
The application period is from the 9th to the 24th of this month. Applicants must prepare one copy each of the closure support application form, closure certificate, business registration certificate, representative’s ID, and bankbook, and submit them by visiting the Gangnam-gu Education Support Division or via email.
Detailed information can be found on the Gangnam-gu District Office website. The district plans to conduct unannounced inspections of the applying academies, and those found to be operating will be excluded from the support.
Gangnam-gu has been actively engaged in quarantine activities such as intensive disinfection of the Daechi-dong academy district and providing hand sanitizers to academies in the area to prevent local COVID-19 infections.
