The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Digital Sex Crime Special Investigation Task Force (Chief Team Leader Yoo Hyun-jung, Head of the Women and Children Crime Investigation Department) announced on the 2nd that it requested an arrest warrant yesterday for public service worker A (26) on charges of violating the Personal Information Protection Act for providing personal information to Jo. The schedule for A's pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant substantive examination) has not yet been set.
A is accused of illegally accessing the personal information of about 200 people while working as a social service worker at a community center in Seoul and providing the personal information of 17 of them to Jo (charges including violation of the Personal Information Protection Act). It was confirmed that A was responsible for assisting with the issuance of resident registration certificates and extracts.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency applied for an arrest warrant for A to the prosecution yesterday. The police plan to continue investigating whether A has other offenses and if there were any accomplices. The police are also verifying whether any illegal acts were committed by the public officials at the community center where A worked.
