Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol Urges New Prosecutors to "Strictly Respond to the Nth Room's Anti-Civilization Crimes"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol urged newly appointed prosecutors to "respond strictly to the maliciously evolving anti-civilization crimes" in relation to the so-called 'n번방' (Nth Room) case during a meeting with them.
On the afternoon of the same day, Yoon attended the commissioning ceremony of 10 new prosecutors held at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-dong, Seoul, and said, "Protecting women, children, the disabled, and powerless and marginalized vulnerable groups is a constitutional mission entrusted to new prosecutors."
He continued, "Unfortunately, the recent 'n번방' case, which involved exploiting women, especially adolescents, and distributing illegal videos, occurred," and urged, "Please respond strictly to these anti-civilization crimes and pay special attention to meticulous protection and support for socially vulnerable groups."
Along with this, Prosecutor General Yoon asked the new prosecutors to become 'prosecutors who learn and reflect' amid the trend of crime becoming more advanced.
Yoon emphasized, "It is becoming increasingly difficult to detect crimes using information and communication technology and to respond to them," and added, "You must continuously hone your practical skills to fulfill your duties as prosecutors."
He cited honesty and integrity as the most important virtues for public officials, saying, "You must act without any shame in both work and private life," and urged, "Always think of the country and the people first, and be armed with a sense of mission and pride."
Regarding the recent passage of the police-prosecutor investigation authority adjustment bill through the National Assembly, which signals significant changes to the criminal justice system in the future, he said, "Fundamentally, please think about the essence of criminal justice that you have studied and learned, and quickly adapt to the new institutional changes."
