Gwangsan District Council of Gwangju Approves Emergency Supplementary Budget to Overcome COVID-19
‘Safety + Job Creation’, ‘Social Distancing’, and ‘Local Economy Boom’: Over 150 Projects in 3 Areas
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangsan District Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City has approved an emergency supplementary budget plan organized to overcome the damages caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and to revitalize the local economy.
According to the Gwangsan District Council on the 31st, the 253rd extraordinary session concluded with the approval of the first supplementary budget plan for 2020.
The budget was finalized at 742.3 billion KRW, which is 4.28 billion KRW less than the 742.7 billion KRW, an increase of 74 billion KRW compared to the original budget.
The supplementary budget includes about 150 projects in three areas: safety + job creation, social distancing, and local economic boom.
Major projects include 7.1 billion KRW for special support for elderly job participation and social activities, 170 million KRW for installation of partitions in public service facilities and multi-use gathering spaces, 23.7 billion KRW for emergency livelihood support as disaster basic income for households, and 10.7 billion KRW for temporary child care support. These projects focus on urgent COVID-19 response and those that can be executed quickly.
Additionally, the council handled two ordinances including the Ordinance on Support for Revitalization of the Local Construction Industry (Councilor Kang Jangwon), and four general matters including consent for private consignment of management and operation of community childcare sharing centers.
The appointment of auditors for the 2019 fiscal year settlement was also adopted, with the audit scheduled to take place from the 3rd to the 22nd of next month.
Yoo Youngjong, Chair of the Budget and Accounts Special Committee, stated, “Considering the purpose of organizing the emergency supplementary budget due to COVID-19, we urge efficient budget execution and thorough project implementation so that the effects of the projects can appear early.”
