Seoul Gangseo-gu, Delivery Service Supporting Remote GED Testing for Out-of-School Youth
Delivering Study Materials, Snacks, and Daily Necessities to Support Passing Exams Despite COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The Gangseo-gu Office (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) Youth Support Center Dream (Director Oh Hyun-joo) is operating Seoul's first non-face-to-face delivery service to support the qualification exam for out-of-school youth.
Until now, the Gangseo-gu Youth Support Center has been running qualification exam classes because out-of-school youth had no choice but to focus on distant academies or online lectures to prepare for the qualification exam, leading many to give up studying.
However, due to COVID-19 and social distancing measures, the center was closed, putting the qualification exam classes for out-of-school youth at risk of collapse.
Worried that the determination of out-of-school youth who are determined to prepare for the qualification exam might be broken, the center decided to deliver study materials directly and provide a non-face-to-face qualification exam support delivery service.
The delivery package is filled with the energy of passing the qualification exam, including qualification exam textbooks (all desired subjects), snacks, cup meals, feminine products, masks, and hand sanitizers.
The delivery schedule runs until April 2, with three center staff members personally delivering despite COVID-19.
To prevent youth from giving up the qualification exam due to COVID-19, mentors are strengthened and regular phone calls are made to encourage continuous study.
Oh Hyun-joo, director of Dream, said, “It is unfortunate that we cannot provide customized services due to COVID-19, but we started the delivery service so that out-of-school youth do not give up their dream of passing the qualification exam. We will continue to strive to provide diverse and high-quality customized services to out-of-school youth.”
The Gangseo-gu Youth Support Center Dream offers various support such as counseling, education support, employment and job experience support, health checkups, and self-development to help out-of-school youth grow into healthy members of society.
