Daejeon, 18 of 34 COVID-19 Confirmed Cases 'Declared Recovered'

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The recovery rate of confirmed COVID-19 patients in the Daejeon area has surpassed 50%.

According to the city on the 30th, as of this date, a total of 18 people have been declared recovered from COVID-19, which is more than half of the 34 cumulative confirmed cases in the region. Since the first recovery was reported on the 2nd, no deaths due to COVID-19 have occurred in the area for 28 days.

The 16 patients who have not yet been declared recovered are currently receiving distributed treatment at Chungnam National University Hospital (13 people), Veterans Hospital (1 person), and Armed Forces Daejeon Hospital (1 person). In addition, one person is under self-quarantine after being discharged from the hospital, so the city expects the number of recovered patients to increase further.

Earlier, the city diversified the treatment of confirmed COVID-19 patients, which was initially centered at Chungnam National University Hospital, to include Veterans Hospital and Daejeon Second Geriatric Specialized Hospital after the 17th, and transferred recovering patients to infectious disease specialized hospitals.

This was to create conditions for Chungnam National University Hospital to focus on managing severe and new patients.

Based on this, the city plans to transfer patients in the recovery phase from Chungnam National University Hospital to infectious disease specialized hospitals, and provide the available national designated beds secured at the hospital to patients from Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and Sejong City, fulfilling its social responsibility to end COVID-19.

Lee Kang-hyuk, Director of the City Health and Welfare Bureau, said, “Thanks to the voluntary cooperation of citizens in social distancing and the organic cooperation between local medical institutions and the city, more than half of the cumulative infected patients have been declared recovered. However, considering the continued increase in confirmed cases due to overseas inflow and sporadic infections, active participation of citizens in social distancing campaigns is still necessary.”
