View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] Amid public outrage over the 'Nth Room' case, where sexual exploitation materials created by threatening minors and women were shared, another site has emerged that shares photos clearly showing the faces of teenage girls, raising concerns about the repercussions.
People who uploaded photos to the site not only sexually manipulated pictures of female students and traded them for money but also advertised that they could create manipulated images according to customers' wishes. Additionally, numerous videos that appear to be illegally filmed were uploaded, suggesting significant suffering for the victims. These individuals were conducting transactions by revealing their Telegram IDs and other contact information.
As of 10 a.m. on the 27th, accessing the site reveals a flood of photos showing female students in outdated appearances. Some are wearing school uniforms and showing friendly poses with friends.
However, beneath these photos, there are captions containing vulgar language and sexual objectification directed at the female students, such as 'humiliating acquaintances,' 'obscene X,' and 'someone touch this X.'
A site user identified as A, who posted a photo of a female student, said, "She is a famous X in OO (region)," and encouraged others to "try approaching her via Facebook messages," specifically guiding how this girl could be exposed to danger.
Meanwhile, another user B sexually manipulated students' photos, disclosed their Telegram ID and other social media accounts, and stated that they could custom-make images as desired, asking for photos of acquaintances and offering to perform 'humiliating acquaintances' for money.
'Humiliating acquaintances' refers to a form of digital sex crime where photos of people known personally or obtained from the internet, including celebrities, are manipulated into pornographic images, with added personal information or defamatory sexual content, and then posted online.
Illegally filmed videos secretly capturing female students' bodies were also listed for trade. Site user C advertised, "9 middle school OO videos for 20,000 won in cultural gift certificates." It is unknown where or how these videos are currently being distributed, and their source is also unknown.
Jo Joo-bin, the operator of the 'Doctor's Room' who threatened dozens of women including minors on the internet messenger Telegram and forced them to film obscene materials which he then distributed, is coming out of Jongno Police Station in Seoul on the morning of the 25th to be sent to the prosecution. View original imageIn summary, the photos and videos of female students displayed on the site may be sexual exploitation materials of minors related to the 'Nth Room' case. These photos were being traded online for money, such as cultural gift certificates.
If the photos or videos were provocative, the accompanying advertisement texts written for sales purposes were even more explicit and lengthy. All of these are false claims and resemble the criminal methods used by 'Doctor' Jo Joo-bin.
Jo Joo-bin is accused of adding narratives to photos and videos of victims and selling them to viewers of the 'Nth Room.'
Given the situation, suspicions have arisen that those indiscriminately uploading photos of minors and women to the site, selling them for money, or sexually manipulating photos may be connected to the 'Nth Room' case.
Such digital sex crimes are steadily increasing. According to the Korea Communications Standards Commission, there were a total of 205,900 digital sex crime information cases subject to correction requests last year. This averages about 70 online posts reviewed daily, which is seven times the 3,636 cases in 2015.
Meanwhile, the police have announced that they will pursue and arrest all individuals involved in the 'Nth Room' case to the end.
On the 24th, Police Commissioner Min Gap-ryong responded to a Blue House petition demanding the disclosure of the identities of 'Nth Room' operators and members, stating, "We will investigate all participants, including not only the arrested operator Jo Joo-bin but also accomplices, video producers, and those possessing or distributing sexual exploitation videos." He added, "We promise once again to use all possible means to track down and arrest not only producers and distributors but also those who participated or aided and abetted."
Minister of Gender Equality and Family Lee Jung-ok, who joined Commissioner Min in the response, said they would prepare the '2nd Comprehensive Digital Sex Crime Countermeasure,' stating, "First, we will establish sentencing guidelines for digital sex crimes that align with public sentiment." She continued, "We will support amendments to digital sex crime-related laws and, especially for crimes against children and adolescents, enforce punishment under a 'zero tolerance principle.'"
